Our participants took a deep dive into Icelandic history and culture with a fascinating session on the Icelandic sagas. These ancient tales hold such importance in the culture of Iceland that at one time it was illegal to modify the texts in any way!

The group also visited the National Museum of Iceland to compare and connect the epic tales of the sagas with the lived reality of the people of Iceland, from settlement all the way up to the present day. We discovered how the the very first humans who landed on the island made a home for themselves despite the harsh climate, and the story of Iceland's long journey to independence.
